Bali`s per capita income up 14.1 pct

Denpasar (ANTARA News) - Bali`s per capita income averaging Rp16.21 million last year, increased 14.1 pct compared to the Rp14.20 million in 2008.

"The per capita income is expected to increase to Rp22.5 million by 2013, almost double that reached in 2008," publication and documentation chief of Bali`s public relations and protocol bureau I Ketut Teneng said here Sunday.

He said Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika and Deputy Governor AAN Puspayota had expressed their determination to raise the living standard and welfare of the people.

Ketut Teneng also said that the seven main programs of the Bali provincial administration are focused on the interest and empowerment of the people in the sectors of education, health, agriculture, small industries, tourism, small and medium businesses, and cooperatives, in addition to conservation, regional cultural development, employment and increased infrastructure.

The various development programs are based on poverty eradication. Bali Governor Bali Made Mangku Pastika is determined to eradicate poverty in the next five years, by increasing the number of families from 10,000 to 25,000 each year.

Bali still have 134,000 poor families, of which not more than 10,000 families could be handled each year.

It would take 14 years to handle the rest. Governor Pastika said he wish to shorten the period to only four or five years. (*)
